What payment terms mean
Net 30 means the full amount is due 30 days after the invoice date, so an invoice dated 15 March 2026 is due on 14 April 2026. End-of-month terms count from the last day of the invoice month, so 30 days EOM on the same invoice moves the due date to 30 April. A term like 2/10 net 30 offers 2% off if the buyer pays within 10 days and otherwise expects the full amount in 30. Skipping that discount is like borrowing for 20 days at about 37% a year, which is why finance teams take early-payment discounts whenever they have the cash. For late payments, simple interest at 8% a year on a 5,000 invoice paid 45 days late comes to about 49.32.
