Screen Recorder

Record your screen, a window or a tab, with or without sound.

About this screen recorder

Press start, choose whether to capture your whole screen, a single window or one browser tab, and it records until you stop. Play the result back on the page, then download it.

No watermark, no sign-up, no time limit and no upload. The video is held in your browser and written to disk only when you ask for it. Most free online screen recorders upload your footage to process it, which is a poor trade when you are recording a bug in an internal system or a walkthrough of your own account.

Recording audio as well as picture

Two separate things, and the distinction confuses people:

  • System audio β€” the sound coming from the thing you are recording. In most browsers this is only offered when you share a browser tab, not a window or the whole screen, because operating systems restrict it. On macOS it generally is not available at all without extra software.
  • Microphone β€” your own voice, for narration. This works regardless of what you are capturing, and is mixed into the recording as it is made.

If you are recording a tutorial with commentary, tick the microphone. If you need the audio from a video you are capturing, share the tab it is playing in rather than the window.

Practical tips

  • Share a tab, not the whole screen, when you can. It keeps notifications and other windows out of the recording and produces a much smaller file.
  • Turn on Do Not Disturb first. Notification banners are the single most common reason a recording has to be redone.
  • Bigger text. Zoom the page before recording β€” text that is comfortable on your monitor is often unreadable once the video is played back in a small window.
  • Quality against size. Higher bitrate keeps text sharp; standard is plenty for demonstrating a workflow. A minute at high quality is roughly 30–40 MB.
  • Redact afterwards if something private appeared. For stills, blur or black it out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I record my screen without downloading software?

Yes. This uses screen capture built into the browser, so there is nothing to install. It works in desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

Does it work on a phone?

No. Mobile browsers do not expose screen capture β€” iOS and Android only allow their own built-in screen recorders, which are in the control centre or quick settings.

Is there a time limit or a watermark?

Neither. The recording is limited only by your device's memory, and nothing is stamped onto the video.

Why can't I record system sound?

Operating systems restrict it. In practice it is usually only offered when you share a single browser tab, and on macOS it is generally unavailable without extra software. Use the microphone option for narration.

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. It is captured and held in your browser, then saved to your device when you press download. Nothing is transmitted at any point.
