About the emoji list
Every emoji in the current Unicode standard, grouped exactly the way the Unicode Consortium groups them and searchable by official name. Click any emoji to copy it β it goes to your clipboard as a plain text character, so it works anywhere text does: messages, documents, filenames, code comments, spreadsheet cells, even folder names.
Emoji that support skin tones show a small tone selector; pick one and the whole grid switches to that tone. Anything you copy is remembered under Recently used, so the handful you actually reach for stay one click away.
How to copy and paste an emoji
- Search by name β type cat, heart or flag β or filter with the category buttons.
- Click the emoji you want. It is copied to your clipboard immediately.
- Paste it wherever you need it with Ctrl+V, or β+V on a Mac.
Because the emoji is copied as a real character rather than an image, it keeps working when the text is forwarded, searched, or read aloud by a screen reader.
Why the same emoji looks different everywhere
Unicode standardises the meaning of an emoji, not its artwork. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and WhatsApp each draw their own set, so π rendered on an iPhone is a different picture from the same character on Android β the underlying code point is identical. That is also why an emoji added in a recent Unicode release may show as a plain box on an older phone: the character arrives fine, but the device has no glyph for it yet.

How do I copy an emoji on a computer?

Why does the emoji show as a square box after I paste it?
A box means the app or device you pasted into has no artwork for that character. The emoji itself pasted correctly, but the font is missing the glyph, which usually happens with emoji from a recent Unicode release on older software. Updating the operating system normally fixes it.
How do I change an emoji's skin tone?
Use the skin tone buttons above the grid. Pick one of the five tones and every emoji that supports skin tones switches to it, so you can copy the version you want. Emoji like objects and animals have no tone variants and are unaffected.
Do emoji work in Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp captions?
Yes. Emoji are ordinary text characters, so they paste into captions, bios, comments and usernames on every major platform, as well as into email subject lines and document filenames.
How many emoji are there?
This list holds 1,914 distinct emoji from Unicode 17.0, across nine categories. That count treats each emoji once rather than counting its five skin-tone variants separately, which is why some sources quote a larger number.
