About this QR code generator

The code is generated by JavaScript running in this page. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, no watermark, no scan limit, and the codes never expire. That last point matters more than it sounds: many "free" QR services generate a redirect link through their own domain, which stops working if they shut down or start charging. These are static codes containing your data directly.
Choosing an error-correction level
QR codes carry redundant data so they still scan when damaged. Four levels are available:
- L β 7% β the least redundancy and the smallest, sparsest code. Fine for a clean screen or a printed page that will not be handled.
- M β 15% β the usual default and a good balance.
- Q β 25% β for codes on packaging, labels or anything that gets scuffed.
- H β 30% β maximum resilience. This is the level to pick if you plan to place a logo over the centre of the code, because the covered modules count as damage.
Higher levels leave less room for data, so the same text produces a denser code.
Making a QR code that actually scans
Most unscannable QR codes fail for one of four reasons:
- No quiet zone. The blank margin around the code is part of the specification β scanners use it to find the code. Keep it at four modules or more.
- Too little contrast. Dark on light, with a real difference in lightness. Inverted codes (light on dark) fail on many scanners.
- Printed too small. A rough rule is that the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance β 2 cm for a 20 cm phone-in-hand scan, much larger for a poster read from across a room.
- Too much data. Long URLs make dense codes that need a better camera. Shorten the link before encoding it.
Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The code contains your data directly, so it works forever and needs no service to stay alive. Codes from providers that route through their own short link stop working if that provider disappears or moves the feature behind a paywall.

How do I make a Wi-Fi QR code?

Can I put a logo in the middle of my QR code?
Yes, if you generate at error-correction level H and keep the logo under roughly 30% of the area. The covered modules count as damage, which the extra redundancy absorbs. Always test the result with a real phone before printing.
Why won't my QR code scan?
The usual causes are too little contrast, no quiet zone around the edges, printing it too small, or cramming in a very long URL. Increase the size, keep the margin, and shorten the link.
