Spacebar Counter

How many times can you press space? Timed challenges and saved bests.

About this counter

Press space (or tap the big target) and count โ€” freely, or against the clock in 5, 10, 30 or 60-second challenges, with your rate shown in presses per second and your best for each mode saved on this device. Held keys don't count: the counter ignores auto-repeat, so scores reflect actual pressing.

What's a good score?

Casual first tries land around 5โ€“7 presses per second; practised players hold 8โ€“10; past 12/s you've discovered techniques โ€” drumming two fingers, or the wrist-vibration method rhythm gamers use. Rates fall as the window grows (a 60s run is an endurance event; expect 20โ€“30% below your 5s rate), which is why bests are tracked per mode. The sibling tests: clicks per second for the mouse and reaction time for the other kind of speed โ€” and if the counter's real job today is settling who goes first, the coin flip is more honest.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good spacebar clicks-per-second score?

5-7/s is a typical first attempt, 8-10 comes with technique, and 12+ is rhythm -game territory using two-finger drumming or wrist vibration. Longer windows score lower โ€” endurance is its own game.

Does holding the spacebar down count?

No โ€” key auto-repeat is ignored, so only genuine presses register. Scores reflect finger speed, not keyboard settings.

Are my best scores saved?

Your best for each timed mode is kept on this device (nothing is uploaded). Clearing site data resets them.

Why does my rate drop in the 60-second test?

Fatigue โ€” everyone's does. A 20-30% fall from your 5-second rate is normal, which is why bests are tracked separately per duration.
