Five rounds make a run, and the average is your score โ€” single rounds are too noisy to mean much, which is also why the random delay exists: a fixed delay would measure anticipation, not reaction.

What is normal, and what moves the number

The human median for a simple visual reaction is around 250 ms, with most adults between 200 and 280. Under 200 is quick; elite esports players and sprinters sit around 150โ€“180. Below about 120 ms is anticipation, not reaction โ€” athletics rules a start faster than 100 ms after the gun a false start for exactly this reason.

Your score includes your hardware: a 60 Hz screen adds up to 16 ms before the green even appears, wireless mice add a few more, so compare runs on the same setup only. Tiredness, alcohol and age all slow reactions measurably; caffeine buys a few milliseconds back. Auditory reactions are ~40 ms faster than visual ones, which is why sprinters start to a gun rather than a light.
