What each effect does, honestly
Higher and deeper are true pitch shifts — a granular shifter that changes pitch while keeping the length, natural within a few semitones and progressively synthetic beyond (which is sometimes the point). Chipmunk and giant are the classic speed tricks: play faster and pitch rises, play slower and it drops, length changing with it. Robot is a ring modulator plus band-pass, the sound of every 1970s film computer; telephone strips everything below 400 Hz and above 3.2 kHz and adds a touch of overdrive, the sound of a landline; cave runs the voice through a synthetic reverb; reverse plays it backwards. Uses range from podcast bits and character voices for a game to the family joke, with one honest note on privacy: a pitch-shifted voice fools casual listeners, not analysis, and shifting it back is trivial — don't rely on it to anonymise anything serious. Record first with the voice recorder, add echo or fades afterwards, and encode to MP3 to share.

Does pitch shifting change the length?
Not for Higher and Deeper — a granular shifter keeps the timing. Chipmunk and Giant deliberately change speed and pitch together, like an old tape machine.
Why does a big pitch shift sound robotic?
Granular shifting stretches and overlaps tiny slices of sound; beyond about 5 semitones the seams become audible. That's the honest limit of on-device shifting without a heavy model.
Can I disguise my voice with this?
To a listener, somewhat; to software, no — pitch shifts are easily reversed. Treat it as fun, not security.
