About this voice recorder
Press record, talk, press stop, play it back, download it. There is a live level meter so you can see you are actually being picked up, a pause button, and a running timer.
The recording is held in your browser and written to your device only when you press download. Nothing is transmitted, there is no account, and there is no time limit imposed by a server β the only limit is your device's memory.
Getting a recording that sounds decent
- Get closer. Distance is the single biggest factor. A cheap microphone 20 cm away beats an expensive one across the room, because room reflections are what make audio sound amateurish.
- Speak across the microphone, not into it. That avoids the plosive thump on p and b sounds.
- Soften the room. Curtains, a rug, a sofa, even a coat over a chair β bare walls and hard floors cause echo that cannot be removed afterwards.
- Watch the meter. Aim for it moving in the middle of the range. If it hits the top and turns red, the audio is clipping and that distortion is permanent.
- Record a few seconds of silence before you start speaking. Noise removal tools use it as a reference.
A note on formats
Recordings are saved as WebM with Opus audio in most browsers, or MP4 in Safari. Both are widely supported by players and editors. There is no MP3 option because browsers do not include an MP3 encoder β offering one would mean either a large download or sending your audio to a server, and neither belongs in a tool that promises the recording stays with you. Any converter or editor will produce an MP3 from these files if you need one.

Do I need to install anything to record audio?
No. It uses the browser's built-in recording support, so it works immediately with no app, extension or sign-up.
Where is my recording stored?
In your browser's memory until you download it, at which point it is saved to your device. Nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards it.
Why can't I download an MP3?
Browsers ship no MP3 encoder, so producing one would mean either downloading a large encoder or sending your audio to a server. Recordings are saved as WebM or MP4, which every player and editor accepts.
Is there a time limit?
None is imposed. Very long recordings are held in memory, so on a low-memory device an hours-long session may become unreliable β download in chunks if you are recording something very long.
Why is my microphone not working?
The browser needs permission. If you denied it, the prompt will not appear again β open the site settings from the padlock or icon in your address bar and allow the microphone there, then reload.
