Bitrates, honestly, and the one thing to avoid
MP3 quality is set by bitrate, and the numbers have listening meanings: 64 kbps is fine for speech (podcasts, voice memos, audiobooks), 128 was the historical music default and still sounds acceptable, 192 is where blind tests say most listeners stop hearing differences, and 320 is headroom for the fussy. File size follows exactly — bitrate × duration — and the size calculator does that arithmetic for any length. The one honest warning: converting an MP3 (or any lossy file) to MP3 again re-compresses what was already compressed, and the losses stack. Start from the best source you have — WAV, FLAC, the original recording — and encode once. Video in, MP3 out is the same pipeline: the browser decodes the audio track and the picture is simply ignored, which makes this the “video to MP3” tool as well.
