RICE Score Calculator
Prioritise features by Reach, Impact, Confidence and Effort.
About this tool
Add each idea with its reach (people affected per quarter), impact (from minimal to massive), confidence (high, medium or low) and effort (person-months). The table ranks them by RICE score, and you can copy the result as CSV for a spreadsheet or roadmap tool.
How the RICE framework works
RICE, popularised by the product team at Intercom, turns a debate about opinions into a comparison of estimates. Reach is how many people an idea affects in a set period, such as customers per quarter. Impact is how much it moves the goal for each of them, on a scale of 3 (massive), 2 (high), 1 (medium), 0.5 (low) or 0.25 (minimal). Confidence reflects how sure you are about those numbers: 100% with data, 80% with some evidence, 50% for a hunch. Effort is the total work in person-months across design, engineering and everyone else. The score is Reach × Impact × Confidence ÷ Effort, which is value per unit of effort. In the example, dark mode (5,000 × 0.5 × 100% ÷ 1 = 2,500) tops faster search (1,867) and the onboarding checklist (1,600), because it's cheap and seen by everyone. Team workspaces' large impact can't outweigh low confidence and six months of effort (200). Scoring every idea the same way makes trade-offs visible, prevents the loudest voice from winning, and highlights where better evidence would change the ranking. Honest limits: RICE is a conversation starter, not an algorithm to obey. Strategic bets, dependencies, technical debt and must-do work like security or legal compliance may rightly override the order. The decision matrix, the Eisenhower matrix and the PERT estimate calculator are related.
Frequently asked questions
What is a RICE score?
Reach × Impact × Confidence ÷ Effort, a way to compare the value per unit of effort of different ideas.
What values does Impact use?

Who created the RICE framework?
It was popularised by the product team at Intercom.
