Random Country Generator
Pick random countries with flags and capitals, filtered by continent.
About this tool
Choose how many countries you want and which continents to include, then press Pick random country. Each result shows the flag, name, capital and continent. Results don't repeat within a pick, and you can copy the list. It uses your browser's secure random number generator. Nothing is stored.
Countries of the world
There are 195 countries in this list: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus its two permanent observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. That's the most common answer to "how many countries are there?", though some lists add places with limited recognition such as Kosovo and Taiwan. By the convention used here, Africa has 54 countries, Asia 47, Europe 45, North America 23 (including Central America and the Caribbean), Oceania 14 and South America 12. Continents are a convention rather than a fact: Russia spans Europe and Asia but is counted in Europe, while TΓΌrkiye, Cyprus and the Caucasus countries are placed differently by different sources. A random country picker is handy for geography quizzes and classroom games, picking a cuisine or film for the evening, travel inspiration, writing and drawing prompts, model UN assignments and sports-day team names. Honest limits: some capitals are disputed or split between cities. For example, South Africa has three, Bolivia two, and the status of Jerusalem is disputed internationally, so the tool notes these. Flags appear as two letters on some Windows browsers because of how they render flag emoji. The flag quiz, the random picker and the world clock are related.
