World Clock
The current time in cities around the world, all at once.
About this world clock
The current time in as many cities as you care to add, updating every second. Each is colour-coded by what the hour means locally โ green for working hours, amber for awake but outside them, red for the middle of the night โ so you can see who is contactable without working anything out.
Your chosen cities are remembered on this device. Daylight saving comes from your browser's own time zone database, so the times stay right through the changeover weeks when countries are briefly out of step.
Time zones are stranger than they look
Not every offset is a whole hour. India runs at UTC+05:30, Nepal at UTC+05:45, parts of Australia at UTC+09:30, and the Chatham Islands at UTC+12:45.
China spans five geographic time zones but observes a single one, so the sun rises in western Xinjiang around 10am by the clock. Nepal's quarter-hour offset was chosen partly to be distinct from India's. And the gap between two cities is not fixed: London and New York are usually five hours apart, but for a couple of weeks each year they are four, because the US and Europe change clocks on different weekends.
All of which is why times are looked up rather than calculated.
Frequently asked questions
What time is it in another country right now?
Add the city and it appears immediately, updating every second. The colour on the left tells you whether it is working hours, evening or the middle of the night there.
Does it handle daylight saving?
Yes, automatically. Each city uses the rules that actually apply today, including the weeks when regions have changed clocks on different dates.
Can I save my cities?
They are stored on this device, so the same set is there when you come back. Clearing your browser data resets them.
Why are some time zones not whole hours?
Historical and political choices. India is UTC+05:30, Nepal UTC+05:45 and parts of Australia UTC+09:30 โ offsets were set locally long before they were standardised.
