Generation Calculator
Which generation you belong to by birth year, from Boomers to Gen Beta.
About this tool
Enter a birth year to see the generation it belongs to, that generation's birth years, whether the year sits on a cusp such as Xennial or Zillennial, and a one-line description of what shaped it. A table lists every generation with its birth years and current age range.
How generations are defined
A generation is a group of people born over roughly 15 to 20 years who came of age during the same events and technology. There are no official boundaries, but Pew Research Center's definitions are the most widely cited: Silent Generation 1928โ1945, Baby Boomers 1946โ1964, Generation X 1965โ1980, Millennials 1981โ1996 and Generation Z 1997โ2012. Boomers are the only generation defined by a measurable event, the post-war birth surge. For the newest groups, this tool uses 15-year spans following on from Pew's Gen Z end date: Generation Alpha 2013โ2024 and Generation Beta 2025โ2039; some researchers start Alpha in 2010. Someone born in 1990 is a Millennial, and someone born in 2005 is Gen Z. People born near a boundary often feel they belong to both, so cusp groups have names of their own: Xennials, about 1977โ1983, grew up analogue and came of age digital, and Zillennials, about 1993โ1998, sit between Millennials and Gen Z. Honest limits: generational labels are conventions, used by marketers and researchers for broad trends. Individual differences within a generation are far larger than the differences between them. The age calculator gives your exact age and the zodiac sign finder looks up star signs.
