Zodiac Sign Finder
Your star sign from your birth date โ plus your Chinese zodiac animal.
About this tool
Enter your birth date and get your western star sign โ symbol, date range, element and the traits tradition assigns it โ plus your Chinese zodiac animal, with an honest note for January and February birthdays, where the animal depends on that year's Lunar New Year date.
Where the signs come from
The twelve signs are the zodiac constellations the sun appears to pass through across a year, a system the Babylonians formalised ~2,500 years ago. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac โ anchored to the equinoxes, not the stars โ which is why precession (Earth's slow axial wobble) has shifted the actual constellations about a sign out of alignment since Babylon, and why the periodic "NASA changed your sign / there's a 13th sign" story misunderstands the system: tropical signs never claimed to track the constellations. Cusp birthdays genuinely can go either way โ boundaries shift a day with the year and hour of birth. All of it is tradition rather than science; enjoy accordingly, and settle the "what sign is she?" question at parties with the age calculator's sibling energy rather than actual decisions.
Frequently asked questions
What are the 12 zodiac signs in order?
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces โ starting from the March equinox. Each spans roughly a month; the chart shows exact dates.
I was born on a cusp โ which sign am I?
Boundary dates shift by a day depending on the year and even the hour of birth, so cusp birthdays genuinely can be either sign. Newspapers simply pick a convention; an exact answer needs your birth year and time.
Why might my Chinese zodiac animal be 'wrong'?
Chinese years start at Lunar New Year (late January to mid-February), not January 1 โ so a January or early-February birthday usually belongs to the previous year's animal. The tool flags exactly this case.
Did the zodiac signs change when NASA 'added' Ophiuchus?
No. Western astrology's tropical zodiac is anchored to the equinoxes, not the constellations, so astronomical realignments โ including the sun's path through Ophiuchus โ never changed anyone's sign. (NASA was describing astronomy, not rewriting astrology.)
