About the countdown
Pick a date and the countdown starts ticking immediately, showing days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining. Add a label so it says what you are waiting for, and the tool remembers it on this device β come back tomorrow and it picks up where you left off.
Presets cover the dates people count down to most: Christmas, New Year, Halloween, Valentine's Day, the summer solstice and the coming weekend. Each rolls forward automatically, so after Christmas the preset points at next year rather than a date in the past.
If the date has already passed, the counter simply runs the other way and tells you how long ago it was.
Counting down to something specific
The date field takes any date, so the obvious uses are the personal ones: a birthday, a wedding, a holiday, a deadline, a due date, a release, the end of term, a retirement. The label makes the page tell you what it is rather than showing a bare number.
Times are your local time, so a countdown to midnight is midnight where you are. If you are coordinating something across time zones, the time zone converter will tell you what that instant is elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until Christmas?
Tap the Christmas preset above and the countdown updates every second. It always targets the next 25 December, so it rolls over to the following year automatically once the day has passed.
Can I count down to my own date?
Yes β set any date and time, and add a label so the page says what it is counting down to. It is stored on your device, so it is still there when you come back.
Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?
The display stops, but nothing is lost: it is calculated from the target date each time the page loads, so reopening it shows the correct remaining time.
What time zone does it use?
Your device's local time. A countdown to midnight means midnight where you are, not UTC.
