Sizes, sheets and what a print shop will ask for
Cards are 85×55 mm in most of Europe and the UK and 3.5×2 inches in North America; both are here, at 300 dots per inch, which is print quality (What DPI you actually need for printing explains why). The sheet layout puts ten cards on a page with small crop marks at each corner so you can cut them with a guillotine or a ruler and knife — print at 100% scale, never “fit to page”, on 250–350 gsm card stock. Honest notes for going to a professional printer: they will usually want 3 mm of bleed (design extending past the cut line) and CMYK colour, neither of which a browser PNG provides; these themes keep the edge plain so a trimmed PNG still looks right, and most online printers accept a PNG for simple designs. Your details stay in the browser. Will a professional printer accept the file?
Most online printers accept a 300-dpi PNG for simple designs. Some ask for bleed and CMYK, which a browser can’t produce — send the PNG and ask; they usually adapt it.
Which size should I choose?
85×55 mm in the UK, Europe and much of Asia; 3.5×2 in (88.9×50.8 mm) in the US and Canada. Wallets and card holders are made for the local size.
