What a word cloud is good for
A word cloud is a frequency chart wearing a costume — and for some jobs the costume is the point. Survey responses, customer reviews, meeting notes and speeches reveal their themes at a glance; a student sees which word they've overused; a workshop gets a visual for the wall. The layout is the classic spiral-with-collision-detection method: each word starts at the centre and walks outward until it finds space, so nothing overlaps and the biggest words land in the middle. Stopwords (the, and, of, is…) are removed because they'd dominate any cloud and say nothing. Honest reading advice: word clouds show frequency, not importance or sentiment — “not” being big tells you nothing about what was negated — so treat them as a first look, and get the actual numbers from the word frequency counter. The word counter and text cleaner tidy the input first.
Frequently asked questions
Why are common words missing?
Stopwords — the, and, of, that — are removed so the cloud shows content words. Without that filter every cloud would just say 'the'.
How is word size decided?
By frequency: the most common word is largest, the rarest shown is smallest, others scale between. The status line names the top word and its count.
Can I download it?
Yes — a 1200×700 PNG on a white background, rendered on your device.
Is a word cloud a good analysis?
It's a good first look and a bad conclusion: it shows how often words appear, not what they mean. Use the frequency counter for numbers and read the text for meaning.
