Weight on Other Planets

Your weight and jump height on the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and beyond.

About this tool

Enter your weight on Earth in kilograms, pounds or stone, and optionally how high you can jump. The calculator shows your weight on every planet in the solar system, the Moon, Pluto, the Sun and the moons Io, Europa and Titan, with each body's gravity compared with Earth's and how high the same jump would take you.

Why you weigh different amounts on other planets

Your mass, the amount of matter in you, is the same everywhere. Your weight is the force of gravity on that mass, and it depends on the surface gravity of the world you're standing on, which in turn depends on that world's mass and radius. To find your weight elsewhere, multiply your Earth weight by the local gravity divided by Earth's 9.81 m/sยฒ. Someone who weighs 70 kg on Earth would weigh about 11.6 kg on the Moon, 26.5 kg on Mars and 177 kg at Jupiter's cloud tops. Bathroom scales show weight in kilograms or pounds because they're calibrated for Earth; on the Moon, the same scale would read about one sixth as much. Lower gravity also means higher jumps: with the same take-off speed, you'd leap about six times as high on the Moon, which is why Apollo astronauts bounded along. Surprisingly, Saturn, Uranus and Venus have surface gravity close to Earth's despite their size, because they are less dense or slightly smaller. Honest limits: gravities are NASA fact-sheet values. The gas giants have no solid surface, so their figures are at the cloud tops, and nobody could survive standing on most of these worlds. Jump heights ignore spacesuits and air. The projectile motion calculator shows how far things fly in different gravities and the unit converter converts weights.

Frequently asked questions

How much would I weigh on the Moon?

About one sixth of your Earth weight: 70 kg on Earth reads about 11.6 kg on the Moon.

Where would I weigh the most?

Of the planets, Jupiter: about 2.5 times your Earth weight. On the Sun it would be about 28 times.

Does my mass change on other planets?

No. Mass stays the same; only weight, the pull of gravity, changes.

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
