About this watermarking tool
Load a photo, type your text, and place it: any of nine corner or edge positions, or tiled diagonally across the whole image. Size, colour and opacity are adjustable, and a drop shadow keeps light text readable over pale areas.
The photo is stamped on a canvas in your browser and never uploaded — which is worth noting, because a fair few free watermarking sites both upload your image and add their own watermark to the result.
Corner or tiled?
It depends on what you are actually trying to do.
A corner mark is branding. It looks tidy, keeps the image clean, and tells people who made it. It is also trivially removed — a crop takes it off in seconds. Fine for social posts where attribution is the point.
A tiled mark across the middle is protection. It cannot be cropped out without destroying the image, and removing it convincingly takes real effort. Use it for proofs sent to clients, preview images and anything you are showing before payment.
Neither is unremovable. Watermarking raises the cost of theft; it does not prevent it. For genuinely sensitive material, send a low-resolution version instead.
Making a watermark that reads well
- Keep the drop shadow on. White text vanishes over a bright sky otherwise.
- Around 40% opacity is usually the sweet spot — present but not shouting over the picture.
- Size relative to the image, which is what the percentage slider does. A fixed pixel size looks huge on a small image and invisible on a large one.
- Avoid the very edge. Social platforms crop thumbnails, and a mark right in the corner is often the first thing lost.

How do I add a watermark to a photo for free?
Load the image, type your text, choose where it sits and how strong it is, then download. There is no sign-up, and nothing of ours is added to your image.
Should the watermark be in the corner or across the middle?
A corner mark is for attribution and looks cleaner but can be cropped off. A tiled mark across the middle is much harder to remove, which is what you want for client proofs and preview images.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. It is stamped on a canvas in your browser and saved straight back to your device.
Can a watermark be removed?
Any watermark can be removed with enough effort — tiled ones just make it expensive and obvious. If material is genuinely sensitive, share a low-resolution version rather than relying on a watermark.
Can I use an image or logo as the watermark?
Not currently — this stamps text only. For a logo, overlay it in an image editor, or use text that matches your brand as a lightweight substitute.
