When and how to add text to a PDF

Plenty of PDFs need a few words added: a form that isn't fillable, a date and name on a letter, an approval note on an invoice, a label on a drawing, a correction to a heading, or a reference number on every page. Re-creating the original document is usually impossible, and many editors require an account or upload. This tool works entirely on your device: pdf.js draws the page preview and pdf-lib writes the text into the original file, which is never sent anywhere. Each click places the text with its top-left corner at the point you clicked, using the size in points, the standard unit in PDFs, where 12 pt is ordinary body text. The text is real, selectable PDF text in Helvetica, so it can be searched and copied and stays crisp when printed. Placing text in a fillable form's fields is better done with the form filler, which keeps the form's own fields. Honest limits: added text sits on top of the page and can't change or delete existing words; to hide old text, redact it first. The standard PDF font supports Western European characters only, so other scripts and emoji appear as question marks. Very large or encrypted files may fail to open.
