Job Offer Comparison Calculator
Compare offers on total pay, benefits, costs, living costs and hours.
About this tool
Fill in up to three offers with salary, expected bonus, the yearly value of vesting equity, retirement match, other benefits, commuting and work costs, your health premiums, a cost-of-living index and weekly hours. The table shows each offer's total value, its cost-of-living-adjusted value and pay per hour worked, with the best offer starred.
Comparing offers fairly
The biggest salary isn't always the best offer. Total compensation adds everything the job pays you: base salary, a realistic bonus (based on what's actually paid out, not the maximum), the yearly value of equity that vests, the employer's pension or 401(k) match and benefits such as health cover, allowances or a car. Then subtract what the job costs: commuting, parking, travel and your share of health premiums. Two more adjustments make offers in different places comparable. A cost-of-living index converts totals into spending power, because a salary in a city 18% more expensive is worth 18% less day to day. Dividing by hours worked gives the effective hourly rate, which captures longer weeks. In the example, Offer B is worth the most on paper, but Offer C comes out ahead once B's higher living costs and longer hours are counted. Use the numbers alongside things they can't capture: career growth, learning, flexibility and remote work, job security, the manager and team, and how you'll feel on Monday mornings. Honest limits: equity in private companies may be worth nothing, bonuses aren't guaranteed, and taxes differ between countries and states, so compare after-tax figures where they differ a lot. Works in any currency. The salary converter, the paycheck calculator and the pay raise calculator are related.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare two job offers?
Add up salary, bonus, equity, retirement match and benefits, subtract job costs, then adjust for cost of living and hours worked.
How should I value stock options or RSUs?
Count only what vests each year, and discount private-company equity heavily, because it may never be sellable.
What else should I consider beyond pay?
Growth, flexibility, job security, culture, the manager and commute time all matter.
