CSV Splitter
Split a big CSV by rows, into N files or by column value; header kept, ZIP download.
About this tool
Open a CSV file of any size, or paste one. Choose to split by rows per file, into a set number of equal files, or into one file per value in a column, such as one per region. Each part is listed with its row count and can be downloaded on its own, or you can download everything as a single ZIP.
Splitting CSV files safely
Big CSV exports run into limits all the time. Excel stops at 1,048,576 rows, email attachments are often capped at 20โ25 MB, and CRM, newsletter and e-commerce importers frequently limit rows or file size per upload. Splitting the file solves this, but doing it in a text editor risks two common mistakes: losing the header row in later parts, and cutting a quoted field that contains a comma or a line break in half. This splitter reads the CSV properly (RFC 4180), so a field like "Two parts:โตboxed separately" stays one record, and it copies the header into every part so each file imports on its own. Splitting by column value groups records instead of chunking them. In the example, the seven orders split by region give North, South and East files with 3, 2 and 2 rows, and empty values go into a "(blank)" file. File names are built from the original name, plus the part number or the column value made safe for file systems. Line endings and an Excel BOM are kept. Honest limits: everything happens in your browser's memory, so files of several hundred megabytes need a desktop browser with plenty of RAM, and the delimiter is detected from the header line. The CSV merger does the reverse, and the CSV viewer and the delimiter converter are related. CSV vs Excel: what each file really contains, and what breaks in between explains the format.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a large CSV file into smaller files?
Open it here, choose rows per file (for example 100,000) and download the parts or a ZIP. The header row is repeated in each file.
Can I split a CSV by a column's values?
Yes. Choose 'One file per value in a column' and pick the column. Each distinct value gets its own file.
Will quoted fields with commas or line breaks break?
No. The file is parsed properly, so quoted fields are never split across files.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and split on your device and never leaves it.
