The crossfade is the whole secret

Butting a clip against itself always clicks or lurches, because the end and beginning never match sample-for-sample. The crossfade solves it the way DJs and sound designers always have: overlap the join and trade volume across it, so at every instant the audio is a plausible blend rather than a jump. Settings that work: 0.1–0.3 s for music and rhythmic material (long enough to melt the seam, short enough not to blur the beat), a second or more for rain, fans, café noise and other ambience where the wash hides everything. What crossfades can't fix: clips whose start and end are genuinely different content — a voice mid-word loops as a stutter no fade rescues; trim to a natural boundary first. Loop mathematics favours you: each repeat reuses the overlap, so ten repeats of a one-minute clip with one-second fades run just under ten minutes, as the live readout shows. The forward-then-reversed trick builds loops that CANNOT mismatch, and generated noise needs no looping at all.

How long should the crossfade be?

0.1–0.3 s for music (seamless without smearing rhythm); 0.5–2 s for ambience like rain or fans, where longer blends hide everything. Zero gives plain repetition, clicks and all.

Why does my loop still 'bump' at the joins?

The clip's start and end differ in content — a chord ringing out into silence can't blend into a cold intro. Trim the clip so it starts and ends in similar material, then loop.

How many repeats can I make?

2–20 per pass — and you can re-loop the result for more. Twenty repeats of a 30-second clip is already ten minutes of WAV (~100 MB), which is why the ceiling exists.

What's the trick for perfect ambient loops?

Reverse the clip and merge forward+backward first (reverse tool, then merger) — the join points then match exactly by construction. Loop THAT and no seam exists at all.
