Webcam Recorder

Record video from your camera and download it. Nothing uploaded.

About this recorder

Start the camera, press record, and download the result. Resolution is selectable up to Full HD, the microphone can be included or left out, and the preview is mirrored the way you expect to see yourself while the saved file is the right way round.

The video is held in your browser and written to disk only when you press download. Nothing is uploaded โ€” which is the difference from most free webcam recorders, and matters for a video message or a self-tape you have not decided to send yet.

Getting a decent-looking recording

  • Light from in front, not behind. A window behind you turns you into a silhouette; facing it is far better than any camera upgrade.
  • Camera at eye level. A laptop on the desk films up your chin. Raise it on a stack of books.
  • Get closer for sound. The built-in microphone is fine at arm's length and poor across a room. Headphones with a mic beat almost any laptop.
  • Check the background before recording, not after.
  • Look at the lens, not the screen, when it matters โ€” that is what makes eye contact on the other end.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything to record my webcam?

No. It uses the browser's own camera and recording support, so there is nothing to install and no account to create.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. It is captured and held in your browser, then saved to your device when you press download. Nothing is transmitted.

Why is the preview mirrored?

Because people expect to see themselves as in a mirror. The recording itself is never mirrored, and you can turn the preview mirroring off.

Why won't my camera start?

The browser needs permission. If you denied it, the prompt will not reappear โ€” open the site settings from the icon in your address bar, allow the camera, and reload.

What format is the video saved in?

WebM in most browsers, MP4 in Safari. Both play in modern players and import into every common video editor.
