Set what counts as silence (threshold) and how long a gap must be before it's cut (minimum gap), and the tool strips the dead air โ keeping a small cushion around every kept region so words never lose their first syllable. The report says how many seconds vanished.
Tuning the two controls honestly
The THRESHOLD is a level in decibels below which audio counts as silence. โ40 dB suits a quiet-room voice memo; a noisy room needs a LESS sensitive setting (toward โ20 dB) so constant hiss isn't preserved as precious speech โ if your output still contains long "silences", they're not silent, they're room noise above the threshold, and that's the tool being honest rather than broken. The MINIMUM GAP is the rhythm protector: only silences longer than it get cut, so natural pauses between sentences survive while five-second thinking voids vanish.
