Meta Tag Generator

Title, description, Open Graph and Twitter tags from one form.

About this generator

Fill in title, description, URL and social image; copy one block of correct HTML โ€” the search snippet tags, the Open Graph set that controls preview cards in WhatsApp, iMessage, Slack, Facebook and LinkedIn, and the Twitter/X card tags. Length counters watch the title (60 characters before truncation) and description (110โ€“160 is the sweet spot) as you type.

What each tag actually does

Title and meta description are your search-result listing โ€” the description doesn't affect ranking directly, but it's your ad copy for the click, and Google rewrites vague ones. og:image decides whether a shared link shows as a rich card or a naked URL; 1200 ร— 630 renders correctly everywhere, and it must be an absolute URL. og:title/description can differ from the search pair โ€” social audiences reward more human phrasing. The twitter:card tag flips X between small and large preview layouts. Deliberately omitted: the keywords meta tag, which search engines have ignored since 2009 โ€” including it marks a site as SEO-cargo-culting. Test the result by pasting your URL into a chat app after deploying; that preview is the Open Graph tags. (This site's own pages are built exactly this way โ€” the image-size guide covers the card dimensions across platforms.)

Frequently asked questions

What size should the og:image be?

1200 ร— 630 pixels โ€” the 1.91:1 shape renders correctly as a large card on every major platform. Use an absolute URL; relative paths silently fail in most scrapers.

Do meta descriptions affect Google rankings?

Not directly โ€” but they're the sales copy under your result, and a compelling 110-160 character description measurably improves clicks. Google rewrites descriptions it finds vague or stuffed.

Why isn't there a keywords meta tag?

Search engines have ignored it since around 2009 (Google confirmed as much publicly). Including it does nothing for ranking and quietly signals outdated SEO.

How do I test my Open Graph tags?

Deploy, then paste the URL into Slack, WhatsApp or a social post composer โ€” the preview card is your tags rendered live. Platforms cache aggressively, so changes can take a re-scrape to appear.
