What a photo says about you
A phone photo typically carries the exact GPS coordinates of where it was taken, the date and time to the second, the phone model, sometimes the serial number, the editing app, and occasionally an embedded thumbnail of the original before you cropped it — all invisible in the picture, all readable by anyone who downloads the file. The EXIF viewer shows you yours. Big social networks strip this on upload, but email, messaging apps, marketplaces, forums, cloud links and your own website usually don't, and “where does this person live” is one right-click away. This tool removes it the robust way: instead of editing the metadata blocks, it redraws the pixels into a fresh file, which by construction has no metadata at all. Honest notes: the pixels are re-encoded (JPG at quality 94, PNG and WebP losslessly), so the file isn't byte-identical; the colour profile is also dropped, which on ordinary sRGB photos is invisible; and the camera's orientation flag is applied before saving so the picture stays the right way up. The compressor shrinks the results if size matters too.
Frequently asked questions
Does it remove GPS location?
Yes — along with everything else in the EXIF block, XMP data, and embedded thumbnails. The list shows which of those each file actually contained.
Why is the file slightly different in size?
Because the pixels are re-encoded rather than copied — that's how the metadata is guaranteed gone. JPGs are saved at high quality; PNG and WebP are lossless.
Is anything uploaded?
No — scanning and re-encoding happen in your browser. That matters, since the point is to keep your location private.
Do Instagram and Facebook already do this?
Mostly, on upload. Email, WhatsApp documents, marketplaces, forums and your own site generally don't. When in doubt, clean first.
