Drawing Prompt Generator
Random things to draw, from easy subjects to challenge scenes, with a timer.
About this tool
Choose a difficulty: easy (a single subject), medium (a subject doing something) or challenge (a scene with a twist, such as "using only three colours"). Pick the categories you want (animals, people, objects or places) and press New prompt. Five more ideas appear underneath. Set a timer from one to 30 minutes for timed sketching. Nothing is stored.
How to use drawing prompts
Facing a blank page is the hardest part of drawing. A random prompt removes the decision so you can start straight away, and it pushes you to draw things you wouldn't normally choose, which is how skills grow. Try quick one-minute sketches to loosen up and practise gesture and shape. Five to 15-minute sessions build observation and detail, and longer prompts suit finished illustrations. The challenge level adds constraints such as a limited palette, an unusual viewpoint or a particular style. Constraints spark creativity, because you have to solve a problem rather than draw on autopilot. Prompts work for daily sketchbook habits, art classes and homework, Inktober-style monthly challenges, warm-ups before a bigger piece, and drawing games with friends, where everyone draws the same prompt and compares. If a prompt doesn't inspire you, skip it, or mix two together. Honest limits: prompts are random combinations, so the occasional one is delightfully odd. Treat that as part of the fun. The story prompts, the kaleidoscope drawing tool and the random word generator are related.
